Teaching Experience
January 2014 – June 2014: Long Term Kindergarten Substitute at Shoreline Elementary, Whitehall, MI
I taught in two kindergarten classrooms, one room for eleven weeks, and another room for 6 weeks while the teachers were out on maternity leave. I planned and implemented daily lessons based on Bridges Math Curriculum, Reader’s Workshop, and Writer’s Workshop. I prepared report cards and held parent-teacher conferences. I worked closely with the other five teachers on the grade level team where we planned activities, completed grade level tasks (purchase orders, faculty meetings, monthly planning), and looked at data for at risk students.
February 2013 – June 2013: Title 1 Intervention Paraprofessional at R. R. Oehrli Elementary, Montague, MI
I was one of six paraprofessionals working with students to strengthen specific literacy or math skills. As a certified teacher, I was given several Tier III groups to work with. While I was able to push into a math class to support the teacher and the Title I students in the class, I traditionally worked in a pull out setting with small groups or in one-on-one settings. Each paraprofessional was responsible for testing students weekly (DIBELS and DAZE) preparing appropriate lessons, and communicating to the student’s teacher and family the progress the student made each week.
August 2009 – June 2012: First Grade Teacher at Indian Head Elementary, Indian Head, MD
I was one of three first grade teachers in the school. I used Houghton Mifflin for literacy instruction and Math Investigations for math instruction. I worked closely with my team to create focused, engaging lessons that meet or succeed state standards. For the last two years, I taught the accelerated first grade class, where I used Junior Great Books, Wordly Wise, and group discussion to help further their understanding and growth of literacy. I administered quarterly assessments four times a year in both literacy and math, performed running records four times a year, performed DIBELS assessments three times a year, and administered a spelling inventory twice a year.
August 2008 – June 2009: Pre-Kindergarten Teacher at Indian Head Elementary, Indian Head, MD
I was one of two Pre-Kindergarten teachers in the school. The year I taught Pre-Kindergarten, the district was transitioning to full day Pre-Kindergarten as well as implementing the Houghton Mifflin Pre-K curriculum for Pre-Kindergarten. I was able to work closely not only with the other Pre-Kindergarten teacher, but also my assistant. Together we were able to successfully implement the new curriculum, teach in such a way to support all learners at their level, and perform the Maryland Model for School Readiness (MMSR) tests on all students.
August 2007 – June 2008: Three-Year-Old Teacher at Indian Head Elementary, Indian Head, MD
Charles County Public Schools had a partnership with Headstart, where Headstart centers would be opened in public schools consisting of two teaching teams, one team from Headstart while the other team was from the public school. I along with my assistant, worked as the public school team. As the program was brand new to Indian Head in August of 2007, I set up the classroom as a learning center based classroom, created my own curriculum, attended meetings for Headstart regulations, and supported the Headstart teaching team. Together, my assistant and I were able to successfully teach together, administer Second Step Screenings, and Maryland Model for School Readiness (MMSR) for 3s.
Volunteer Experience
October 2010 - April 2012: MESA Volunteer, Indian Head Elementary, Indian Head, MD
I worked with a group of students and parent volunteers once a week as part of the Indian Head MESA (Mathematics Engineering Science Achievement) team and monitored and supported their work on their Story Book, Theme Park Project in the 2010-2011 school year and on the Bridge Building Project in the 2011-2012 school year.
August 2009 - June 2012: PTO Staff Vice President, Indian Head Elementary, Indian Head, MD
I worked as part of the PTO to help the parents, students, and staff of my school. As Staff Vice President, I brought information from the PTO to the staff as necessary, and I also brought staff needs and concerns to the PTO when necessary.
